The Big Island Interscholastic Federation volleyball teams took different paths Thursday night to get to the same destination: the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II semifinals.
At Farrington High School in Honolulu, Cameron Enriques smashed 22 kills as the Trojans rallied to defeat Aiea 16-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-5.
Larry-Dan Al-Navarro added seven kills and five digs, Anthony Emmsley-Ah Yee posted six kills, and Brian Gascon finished with four kills and 28 assists for the BIIF champion Trojans (8-6).
Third-seeded Ka‘u will face second-seeded Seabury Hall in 5 p.m. semifinal today at Farrington. The Maui Interscholastic League champion Spartans swept Hanalani 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 in their quarterfinal.
Lehre Vidal served four of Ka‘u’s 11 aces, and Enriques and Chance Emmsley-Ah Yee each had two.
The BIIF runner-up Dragons (9-5) dispatched top-seeded Kapaa with relative ease at McKinley High School, winning 25-20, 25-23, 26-24.
Chance Salva put down 17 kills, Shyrome Batin posted nine and Cjay Carvalho added seven.
The difference, coach Shelton Kalilikane said, was the defensive effort led by middle blocker Cody Lindsey (five kills, four blocks), Makana Loo (40 assists) and libero Elzer Maltezo.
“Fans of other teams were coming up to me after the game and congratulating me on our defense,” Kalilikane said. “This is the best I’ve ever seen us play.”
Honokaa meets three-time defending state champion Hawaii Baptist at 7 p.m. today in the semifinals at Farrington. The Eagles (11-2), who won the Interscholastic League of Honolulu this season, beat Kailua 25-12, 25-13, 25-12.
Honokaa was making its first state appearance since Kalilikane led them to Honolulu as a senior in 2008, and the Dragons accomplished something their coach couldn’t as a player.
Setter Loo fueled a balanced attack against Kauai Interscholastic Federation champion Kapaa as Honokaa earned its first triumph in the winners’ bracket at states in Division II.
Jordan Asia Juan and Wayne Vaoga each compiled four kills.
“Makana found our hitters so they could expose our opponent’s weaknesses,” Kalilikane said.

Kamehameha 13, Konawaena 3: In a rematch of the BIIF championship series, the Warriors won again to take fifth place in the state softball tournament at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Kamehameha (14-3) got big nights at the plate from freshman Kiarra Lincoln and Kekai Wong-Yuen, who each went 4 for 4. Lincoln homered and doubled, finishing with four runs and four RBIs, while Wong-Yuen doubled twice and drove in four runs.
Mykala Tokunaga picked up her second victory of the day in a complete game, and went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Jaysha Alonzo-Estrada collected two runs and scored twice.
Shyla Victor took the loss for the Wildcats (10-7-1), who led 3-2 until Kamehameha scored seven runs in the fourth inning.
Kaila Kaupe Deleon finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Bethany Batangan had two hits and scored a run.

Kamehameha 13, McKinley 1: Mykala Tokunaga pitched a one-hitter and Mekana Wagner went 3 for 3 with five RBIs to lift the Warriors in a consolation game.
Gayla Ha-Cabebe hit a home run and scored three times for Kamehameha, which scored multiple runs in each inning of the TKO victory against the Tigers (8-11), the No. 3 team from the Oahu Interscholastic Association.
Kiarra Lincoln and Kekai Wong-Yuen finished with two hits apiece, while Tokunaga and Kaila Kaaihue each scored twice and drove in two runs.

Konawaena 5, Molokai 2: Dorian Anu Binney fueled the Wildcats to a consolation victory, pitching a complete game and driving in and scoring a run.
With the score tied at 2-all in the fifth, Binney led off with a walk and came around to score on a passed ball. She added a a run-scoring single in the sixth.
Jayssa Grace finished 2 for 3 with a run-scoring single and Kaila Kaupe Deleon also had two hits. Syleesia Jose drove in a run with a hit and Kiersen Kawehi Deleon doubled and scored twice.
Binney walked only two and struck out two against the fourth-seeded Farmers (9-5), the Maui Interscholastic Federation champion.

Division I
Kamehameha-Kapalama 6, Hilo 0: Christine Hipa pitched a two-hit shutout in a consolation game at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, ending the Vikings’ season.
Aliesa Kaneshiro also went the distance in the loss for BIIF champion Hilo (14-2) and pitched well except for a second inning in which the top-seeded Warriors (13-4) strung together seven hits and scored six runs. The senior issued three walks with one strikeout.
Shyanne Higa-Gonsalves and Chailey Cabalis had the Vikings’ hits.
